Volvo Cars has announced an expansion of its existing partnership with NVIDIA that will look to unlock new levels of safety in automated driving technology in future cars.
Building on Volvo Cars’ prior safety knowledge and powered by the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, the new technology will allow future Volvo cars to navigate more complex real-world environments from door to door – including highways, busy urban streets and parking scenarios.

The new technology will make its debut in a next-generation Volvo car as part of the company’s recently announced largest-ever product push, which will aim to combine vehicle safety systems with NVIDIA’s AI and accelerated computing technologies, such as thethe Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, Halos OS, and Alpamayo Stack driving software.
Together, both parties will aim to ‘raise the bar’ for AI-enabled car safety whilst seeking to make driving feel easier and more effortless for customers, with a gradual introduction of ‘eyes-off’ and ‘mind-off’ driving.
Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars, said:Volvo has been synonymous with car safety for almost 100 years.
By working with NVIDIA, we bring together two distinct strengths: industry-leading safety knowledge and world-class AI technology. That combination gives us a unique opportunity to create safer and more attractive cars for our customers.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said:Accelerated computing has transformed the car into an intelligent machine that can understand the world around it.
Volvo has spent nearly a century protecting people on the road. Together, we’re combining Volvo’s extraordinary vehicle safety systems with NVIDIA Hyperion and Halos to build a new generation of cars that make driving safer and more effortless.
