Advanced driver-assistance systems have different levels of assistance, with basic levels being functions such as adaptive cruise control or emergency brake assist. A driver monitoring system (DMS) is a vehicle safety system that monitors a driver's level of alertness and issues a warning if the driver shows signs of, for example, drowsiness or inattention by taking the eyes off the road. Such a system uses a camera in the vehicle's steering column that tracks the driver's face.
