Voi is partnering with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) provider, Swobbee to install battery swapping stations for e-scooter fleets in Europe.

The two companies have initially paired two Swobee charging stations at the Audi charging hub in Nuremberg with shared Voi e-scooters. These stations enable e-scooter batteries to be changed quickly and easily without taking a vehicle out of operation.

Following the success of this project, the two companies now hope to scale their partnership across Europe.

Stephan Boelte , Regional General Manager DACH at Voi, said:

Thanks to the Swobbee stations located in the immediate vicinity of our rental station, the replacement batteries of our e-scooters can be changed with significantly less energy and work. In this way, we can further increase the sustainability of our fleet. We are confident that we will be able to expand our cooperation to other locations in Germany in the future.

Elsewhere in Germany, Swobbee has also recently partnered with Bolt to trial e-scooter battery charging stations in Berlin.

By working with multiple operators, Swobbee aims to highlight the potential of battery swapping to enhance the efficiency of all micromobility fleets.

Swobbee CEO Thomas Duscha said:

We are very pleased to now also be working with Voi, one of the most important drivers of micro-mobility in Europe. Swobbee and Voi share the same vision: to create attractive and sustainable mobility offers for liveable cities. Together with our partner Audi, we are offering a forward-looking link between electric cars and small electric vehicles at the Audi charging hub at the exhibition centre in Nuremberg.
