Geotab, a global leader in connected vehicle and asset management solutions, has won the Innovation in Telematics category at the 2026 Motor Trader Commercial Industry Awards in Birmingham, UK.

The award recognises two of Geotab’s breakthrough advancements that redefine commercial telematics: Geotab Vitality, a driver risk management platform rooted in behavioural science, and AI-driven Predictive Maintenance capabilities that prevent asset failure before it occurs.

Rewarding safe driving

Traditional fleet safety programmes often rely on punitive measures to correct poor driving after an incident. Geotab Vitality disrupts this model by fusing advanced telematics data with award-winning behavioural science to engage drivers through a gamified mobile app. By setting personalised weekly goals and rewarding safe behaviours with tangible incentives, the platform fosters a culture of positive engagement rather than surveillance.

During a 90-day pilot with Richards Building Supply, the programme delivered a 41% improvement in safe driving behaviours and an 8% reduction in the fleet’s Predictive Collision Risk (PCR) rating, projecting annual savings of over $195,000 (£153,000).

Maximising uptime with predictive AI

Moving beyond standard scheduled servicing, Geotab’s predictive maintenance capabilities leverage billions of daily data points to identify subtle anomalies in vehicle sensor data. By analysing signals like battery cranking voltage variations and oil pressure trends, the platform predicts breakdowns before they result in costly downtime.

This predictive capability has proven essential for major UK operators. The Go-Ahead Group prevented over 10 breakdowns in a single month and furthermore, saved up to £20,000 per engine by preventing catastrophic engine failures through monitoring low oil pressure. Similarly, United Utilities leveraged Geotab’s insights to prevent a catastrophic engine failure, saving £60,000 in a single event while cutting preventive maintenance costs by £10,813 over 18 months.

Oliver Holt, Senior Sales Manager UK & Ireland at Geotab, said:

Telematics is no longer just about tracking vehicles on a map; it is about predicting what happens next.

This award validates our focus on turning billions of data points into proactive intelligence. Whether we are using behavioural science to protect drivers or AI to prevent engine failures, the goal is always the same: delivering measurable safety and efficiency for our customers.

The Motor Trader Commercial Industry Awards recognise the highest levels of professionalism and excellence in the industry.
