WeRide is expanding the testing programme for its L2++ intelligent driving technology to international locations. Its end-to-end intelligent driving solution is now undergoing on-road testing and localisation validation in Germany, France, Japan and other overseas markets.

The programme is intended to support the adaptation of WeRide’s driving system to different regulatory frameworks, road layouts, driving behaviours and climate conditions.

The system has been developed using its proprietary end-to-end driving algorithm and integrated with an automotive domain controller platform co-developed with Bosch.

The testing programme forms part of a wider engineering framework covering research and development, testing, validation and future commercial deployment across international markets. WeRide is working with Bosch to validate the technology in a range of driving environments while collecting data to improve system performance under local operating conditions.

WeRide is also collaborating with vehicle manufacturers to incorporate regional driving habits, customer preferences and regulatory requirements into the development process.

The intelligent driving solution uses a unified end-to-end artificial intelligence architecture that combines perception, prediction, planning and vehicle control within a single model.

The system supports both driving and automated parking functions and has been designed to reduce cumulative system errors while improving the interpretation of interactions between vehicles, pedestrians and surrounding infrastructure.

According to WeRide, the architecture enables the system to adapt to a range of operating environments, including motorway driving in Germany, urban road networks in France, right-hand-drive markets such as Japan and varying climate conditions in the Middle East.

Alongside its international testing programme, WeRide said the technology continues to be deployed in China, where it has been validated in complex traffic environments.

The Chery Exeed ES and ET models equipped with its WRD 3.0 intelligent driving system have won six consecutive editions of the China Intelligent Driving Challenge over the past six months.

WeRide also said its technology has been selected for more than 30 production vehicle programmes with manufacturers including Chery and GAC Group.

The experience gained from both domestic deployment and overseas testing will be used to improve the adaptability of its intelligent driving platform as it prepares for wider international deployment.
