Valeo is to provide its next-generation corner radar suite, which consists of both hardware and embedded software, for the L2+ and L3+ systems of an unnamed North American EV manufacturer.
This radar technology has 50x the resolution of previous generations and enables important safety features in the vehicles as well as driving and parking functions. The safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and safe exit protection.

The radar platform is modular so that the OEM in question can customise it for different levels of autonomy (from entry to Level 3). It support over-the-air updates for both upgrades and new functions, such as ‘eyes off’ capabilities.
Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo Brain Division, said:This landmark win with a major North American automaker validates the unrivaled performance of our next-generation radar in the most demanding environments. With 50 times the resolution of the previous generation, this technology fully meets OEM expectations for integration flexibility and low power consumption, while supporting advanced parking features. This new contract is in line with Valeo's Elevate 2028 growth objectives in the region and supports Valeo's mission to democratize state-of-the-art safety technology for greater road safety.
Valeo’s radar range includes both front and corner radars to ensure the reliable detection of small objects both near and far.
The front radar is good for long-range vision: it can detect hazards at distances of up to 250m, allowing reliable object detection and safe navigation even at high speeds. To ensure performance in tough environments such as tunnels and adverse weather, the system uses ‘advanced interface robustness’ and ‘waveguide antenna technology’. Valeo also says that the system is set up such that the vehicles will be ready for future centralised AI software stacks.
The corner radar sensors are designed to create a protective bubble around the vehicle. The sensors power critical functions such as blind spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alerts as well as features such as advanced parking. The lane change assist gives drivers visual, acoustic and haptic alerts and can also perform fully automatic lane changes. The rear cross-traffic alert sensor is there to help drivers when reversing out of a parking space by warning drivers of approaching vehicles.
