UrbanThings and Littlepay Partner to Bring MaaS to the Masses

An exciting update from UrbanThings. We are partnering with payments infrastructure provider Littlepay. By integrating with the UrbanThings back office, UrbanHub, this exciting partnership will enable multi-operator and multi-modal contactless payments and capping.

How Passengers Will Benefit from the Urbanthings and Littlepay Partnership

Through our integration with Littlepay, passengers can monitor and understand their payments and travel history via a mobile app, regardless of whether they use contactless or mobile payments. As a result, they will be able to see in real-time what they are paying for their travel and when they are benefitting from caps.

Furthermore, the partnership also allows the UK’s first-ever ‘Buy now, tap later’ transit payment option to be offered to passengers. They will be able to associate their bank card with their MaaS account via the mobile app and use this as their travel token; a concept known as cEMV “Model 3”. This, therefore, eliminates the need for passengers to carry additional pieces of plastic around in their pockets.

Multi-Operator and Multi-Modal

For the operator, the partnership will provide richer insights into how passengers are using their network. A unique payment token, based on cardholder data received at point of tap, and tokenised to protect cardholder identity, will therefore provide rich insights into passenger travel and payments behaviour across multi-modal transport networks.

This cross-channel view is critical to understanding the use of transport across a network. It also complements new governmental initiatives such as Bus Back Better.

Carl Partridge, CEO at UrbanThings, said:

We’re very excited about our partnership with Littlepay. We have the same shared goals to create a seamless, user-friendly travel experience. The Littlepay platform is a proven, reliable platform that is complementary to the UrbanThings MaaS platform.

UrbanThings and Littlepay will jointly explore future solutions. They hope to harness the power of a state-of-the-art data platform and robust contactless payments to bring MaaS to life. To find out more about UrbanHub or any of the UrbanThings products, then get in touch with the team.

Sherryll Ricketts, Solutions Consultancy Lead at Littlepay, said:

We are delighted to partner with UrbanThings to unify payments across the MaaS channels supported by their UrbanHub platform. It is exciting when we get to work with like-minded teams, equally committed to advancing innovation in the transport industry.
