Rødne Trafikk has officially taken ownership of a brand-new vessel from Oma Baatbyggeri AS in Stord.
The combi-catamaran, which aims to combine high efficiency, flexibility and sustainability, will soon enter operation on the route connecting Lauvik and Lysebotn for a 10-year contract period for Kolumbus.
At 46 metres in length, 11 metres and width and with a service speed of 19 knots; the vessel has the capacity to transport trucks, passenger cars and up to 97 passengers, whilst also being configured to carry cargo simultaneously.
Named M/S Rygerlys, the vessel has been designed to offer high comfort, and is equipped with a modern, all-electric propulsion system that enables emission-free operation along the entire route.

The vessel, which is made of recyclable and seawater-resistant aluminium, was built at Oma Baatbyggeri in Stord in close collaboration with around 20 Norwegian subcontractors, with several local companies playing a key role in its construction, including Teca AS in Stord, which was responsible for the installation of the electrical system and radio/navigation equipment; Servogear from Bømlo, which supplied the vessel’s gear and propeller system; Fjellstrand, which contributed to the construction of hull sections; and Brunvoll from Tokke in Telemark, which was responsible for the integration of the electric hybrid propulsion system and the vessel’s monitoring system.

The delivery is important not only for Oma and Rødne, but also for the maritime cluster, the expertise environments and employment along the coast. We are proud to deliver Rygerlys to Rødne and look forward to a good and long-term collaboration.
Having arrived in Forsand, Rygerlys will now begin a period of running-in and testing of the charging infrastructure and quays inland in the Lysefjord in order to ensure that the vessel meets all requirements for safety, quality and regularity before it is put into service.
