Mobileye has announced plans to establish its own autonomous ride-hailing business, marking an expansion beyond its existing role as a supplier of self-driving technology to vehicle manufacturers.
The new venture is expected to begin operations in a US city in 2027. It will see Mobileye take responsibility for the full robotaxi service, including fleet operations, mobility management and customer-facing services, while continuing to supply autonomous driving technology to external partners.

The business will combine Mobileye Drive, the company’s self-driving platform, with mobility technologies from its subsidiary Moovit. These include journey-planning applications, fleet-management systems, mission-control tools and teleoperation infrastructure designed to support autonomous vehicle operations.
Mobileye stated that the move is intended to complement, rather than replace, its existing partnerships with vehicle manufacturers and mobility providers. Direct operation of a robotaxi fleet will enable the company to gain operational experience, support wider deployment of autonomous transport and demonstrate the capabilities of its technology in real-world conditions.
Mobileye plans to deploy an initial fleet of around 100 vehicles in a major metropolitan area in the US during 2027. The rollout is expected to take place in phases throughout the year and will focus on fully driverless operations.
Subject to the performance of the initial deployment, Mobileye intends to expand the service significantly, with a target of approximately 17,000 vehicles over the following five years.
Mobileye founder and chief executive officer Professor Amnon Shashua said:The robotaxi revolution has only just begun, and its potential for transforming how we travel around the world continues to increase. As interest in autonomous mobility accelerates, the industry has become increasingly dependent on a small number of technology providers and business models. We believe there is an opportunity for a new approach—one built on deep autonomous-driving expertise, strong industry partnerships, and proven capabilities across the mobility ecosystem.
To support the programme, Mobileye plans to work with vehicle platform manufacturers, fleet operators, vehicle integration specialists and technology suppliers. These partnerships look to help create the infrastructure required to operate autonomous ride-hailing services under a dedicated business division.
The initiative also builds on Moovit’s existing mobility platform, which provides transport planning and related services across thousands of cities worldwide. Mobileye said Moovit’s experience in rider engagement, multimodal transport planning and fleet operations would support the development and expansion of autonomous transport services.
