Mercedes-Benz Trucks has received a five-star rating from Euro NCAP for its Actros 4×2 Rigid box body truck variant.
The truck received a score of 88%, which combines evaluations across safety areas and confirms a high level of safety across all test categories.
Euro NCAP tests replicate typical accident scenarios, including both rear‑end and frontal collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, unintentional lane departures, as well as turning and maneuvering at low speeds.
All assessments are carried out under standardised conditions on the test track, with steering robots and specialised test equipment for driver assistance systems used to ensure reproducible and comparable results.
Mustafa Üstertuna, Chief Engineer Software & Electrics/Electronics at Daimler Truck, said:The results show that our safety and assistance systems, such as Active Sideguard Assist 2 and Active Brake Assist 6 Plus, effectively can support drivers in demanding traffic situations while at the same time protecting other road users—especially in complex traffic environments.
A key focus of the Euro NCAP rating is the protection of vulnerable road users. Dedicated tests aim to assess the reliability with which pedestrians and cyclists are detected, as well as how the vehicle reacts in critical situations – such as when turning at intersections, pulling away or performing slow manoeuvres in urban traffic.
Within this specific category, Mercedes-Benz trucks typically achieve high ratings, with tests on collision avoidance at low speeds, as well as on the detection of cyclists along the vehicle’s side and in the front area, receiving positive evaluations.
Elsewhere, the vehicles achieve strong results in several safety‑relevant categories in the Euro NCAP test, including assistance systems for speed and distance control, lane monitoring and lane‑departure prevention functions, as well as systems that automatically respond when an imminent collision is detected.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ Actros 6×2 Rigid truck variant, as well as the Actros 4×2 Tractor Unit, have also achieved the top rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP safety assessment.
