Iomob’s MaaS Ports 4.0 Project Gets Pre-selected by Spanish Authorities
Iomob is proud to have been pre-selected by the Spanish State Port Authorities as part of their Ports 4.0 funding line. This initiative attracts and supports entrepreneurial innovation for the Spanish public and private port sector within the context of the 4th industrial revolution. The pre-selection process resulted in the number of active projects being reduced from 474 to 67 applications. The final selection will be announced in the first half of this year, 2021.
Iomob’s MaaS Ports 4.0 proposal could transform Spanish ports through a mobility platform that integrates maritime and ground modes of transport for city and intercity travel. This proposal enables seamless multimodal travel that includes public and private transport such as ferries, taxis, buses on demand, micromobility and long-distance rail and intercity buses. Through the platform, journeys can be booked between the major ports of Algeciras and Valencia, and the rest of Spain. The project empowers travelers to plan, book and pay for their trips in a convenient manner. Maas Ports 4.0 offers tourists and port employees a better connection between the port, the nearby city and the rest of Spain. Users with reduced mobility or disability will be able to plan for journeys that cater to their needs.
MaaS Ports 4.0 stands in contrast to many of the current companies offering MaaS services through their walled garden apps under their own company branding. These apps work with a limited number of preferred mobility providers and therefore can only offer a small number of travel options to their users. By contrast, Iomob’s platform can be personalised for the port authorities with their own bespoke branding. Alternatively, Iomob’s platform can be integrated inside existing mobility apps of partners like the ferry companies, Transmediterranea and Balearia.
Iomob’s solution is open to all mobility providers who want to offer their service through the platform. In addition to the ports and the ferry operators already mentioned, project partners include: Renfe, the major Spanish rail operator; the scooter sharing company, Spin; and multiple bus-on-demand partners such as BusUp, Nemi and Shotl. This gives users abundant choice for their multimodal travel.
MaaS Ports 4.0 goes beyond offering mobility solutions only to tourists. Port employees can also benefit from Iomob’s platform as well. Through the app, employees are offered sustainable mobility alternatives to the private car for their daily commute. This means a potential reduction in their carbon footprint. Moreover, fewer employees using their private car for their daily commute means that fewer parking spaces are needed. This can benefit the ports by utilising the unused parking lots in more profitable ways. Iomob’s solution can contribute to achieving the sustainable development objectives of the ports by 2030. Companies located in the ports can also contribute to the 2030 objectives by joining the project as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.
MaaS Ports 4.0 was created in collaboration with the Puerto de Valencia Foundation, the Bay of Algeciras Port Authority and the Valencia Port Authority. The project has the strong support of the AIVP Port Association and the MaaS Alliance.
