Aptiv PLC has announced that Volvo Cars has chosen its Gen 8 radar platform for deployment in future cars.
With inclusion beginning in 2028; the platform will be used to support a number of safety and drive assistance functions as both brands continue to evolve their respective vehicle portfolios around software‑defined architectures.

The Gen 8 radar represents Aptiv’s latest advancement in scalable, high-resolution sensing technology. It is powered by Aptiv’s own proprietary antenna and silicon design, and aims to deliver class-the high-resolution sensing necessary to support AI- and machine learning-powered ADAS capabilities.
Alwin Bakkenes, Head of Software Engineering at Volvo Cars, said:Volvo Cars has always been guided by a belief that safety should be designed around people and real‑world driving conditions.
Aptiv’s Gen 8 radar platform helps us deliver even more robust perception capabilities to our advanced driver assistance systems across increasingly complex environments and driving scenarios.
Designed to support next-generation safety and automated driving features, the Aptiv Gen 8 radar platform seeks to offer enhanced capability for resolving complex scenarios, improved robustness in challenging environmental conditions, optimised performance for multi-sensor function and a scalable system architecture envisioned for deployment across multiple vehicle lines and global markets.
