Torc has announced an expansion of its autonomous truck testing operations to encompass public roads in and around Michigan.

The company will soon begin testing a Daimler Truck autonomous chassis based on the Freightliner Cascadia in the greater Ann Abor area following previous trials held in Dallas-Fort Worth and Blacksburg.

An expansion into Michigan-based testing builds on Torc’s ongoing partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Ann Arbor SPARK.

Felix Heide, Head of Artificial Intelligence at Torc, said:

Validating our hardware and software together on public roads is a critical step in the marathon toward autonomous trucking commercialisation.

Each new hardware generation allows us to further validate our AI inference models, strengthen our simulation accuracy, and ensure our autonomous system performs safely and reliably in real-world conditions.

The company recently announced intentions to hire a number of additional employees in software engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning roles, all of which are planned to contribute to and support ongoing testing and development efforts.
