The SOCOMEC ESS team was honored at the Energy Storage Awards 2025, held in London on November 20, 2025.
The Energy Storage Awards highlight companies and projects in the energy storage sector in Europe, showcasing organizations that contribute to the energy transition through innovative and high-performance solutions.

Socomec ESS Business Unit won the Energy Storage Decentralised Project of the Year for its energy storage system deployed for the Trieste Airport in Italy. The project was recognized for its positive environmental impact, the substantial financial savings achieved by the customer, and its strong contribution to the local area. The award acknowledges the technical expertise and collaboration across teams.
The goal of the awarded project was to optimize the production of the photovoltaic plant and improve the airport’s energy autonomy. Thanks to the installation of three SUNSYS HES L systems totaling 600 kVA and 3.3 MWh and after one year of operation, the airport achieved the following results:
- 46 percent of the electricity consumed is supplied by the photovoltaic plant
- 24 percent of the electricity consumed is delivered by the batteries recharged with this solar energy
- only 30 percent of the electricity consumed comes from the grid
- self-consumption of the airport’s solar production is increased by 28 percent thanks to the battery energy storage systems
- the airport’s CO₂ emissions are reduced by 559 tons per year
- an additional 1177 tons are saved thanks to renewable energy fed back into the grid.
This award recognizes the involvement of many collaborators from the ESS Business Unit in engineering, project management, sales, services, quality and support functions.
Pasquale di DONNA, ESS Sales Manager for Italy, praised the commitment of the teams and their ability to successfully carry out a complex project in a demanding environment.
