OLED Lighting Technology
OLEDWorks creates the world’s best performing OLED lighting technology. OLED lights are surface light sources which are quickly gaining traction in rear digital lighting modules. With high brightness and unparalleled uniformity, OLEDs convey elegance, a comfortable light quality, and design simplicity without the need for optical guides or diffusors. This allows the OLEDs to remain extremely thin (less than 1mm) and lightweight. According to OLEDWorks’ partners, replacing LED taillight systems with OLED lighting can lead to an 80% reduction in space and a 50% reduction in taillight weight.
OLED panels can include multiple, individually addressable segments providing a high contrast ratio without crosstalk. This segmentation is achieved within the panel design and does not diminish the overall thinness, uniformity, or light quality. This inherent segmentation allows for enhanced Car-to-X Communication through dynamic symbols and animation sequences, increasing safety for drivers and pedestrians alike.
The latest OLEDWorks prototype designs include as many as 600 segments in a lit area of 56mm x 203mm, with further development ongoing.
OLED Lighting Panels for the Audi A8
In April 2022, OLEDWorks announced that it is the official supplier of OLED lighting panels for the updated Audi A8. Digital OLED rear lighting is a standard feature in this model and allows customers to personalize their vehicle with up to four light signatures across the model range. This is the first vehicle to offer OLED lighting standard, and the lights increase safety on the road through proximity indication and a wide viewing angle.
