Stellantis and Wayve have announced a strategic partnership to integrate AI-based driving technology into Stellantis’ automated driving platform to enable hands-free supervised driving in urban and highway environments.

The collaboration will see Wayve’s AI driving system incorporated into Stellantis’ STLA AutoDrive platform. The system is intended to support “Level 2++” capability, allowing hands-free operation under driver supervision in defined conditions across city and motorway routes.

The initial deployment is planned for North America in 2028. The system is expected to operate across multiple vehicle types and markets over time, with further development intended to support higher levels of driving automation as regulations and technical conditions allow.

Alex Kendall, Co-founder and CEO of Wayve said:

This agreement marks an important next step for Wayve and Stellantis in scaling our technology together. Our teams have already demonstrated how quickly the Wayve AI Driver can be integrated across Stellantis’ vehicle platforms, bringing up a prototype in less than 2 months. By combining Wayve’s AI with Stellantis’ engineering expertise, scale, and global reach, we’re accelerating our mission to bring autonomy to any vehicle, anywhere.

Stellantis notes that the partnership builds on its earlier investment in Wayve and is part of its wider approach to developing driver assistance systems across its vehicle brands. The integration is intended to provide a consistent technical foundation for automated driving features across its product range.

Wayve’s AI-based driving model is designed to learn from real-world driving data and adapt across different environments. The company reported that early integration work with Stellantis has already been carried out on prototype vehicles, with development work completed within a relatively short timeframe.

The system is designed to be scalable across Stellantis’ vehicle portfolio and to use data-driven updates to refine performance over time. The development forms part of ongoing industry work on automated driving systems, with deployment timelines dependent on regulatory approval and market readiness.

Ned Curic, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Stellantis said:

At Stellantis, we focus on technology that fundamentally transforms how our customers interact with their vehicles. Combining our STLA AutoDrive platform with Wayve’s groundbreaking AI-first approach creates a genuinely intuitive and enjoyable hands-free driving experience. This collaboration is a testament to how the right partnerships allow us to scale advanced technology globally while anchoring customer safety and experience at the centre.
