Sophie Desormière, Chairman of the Management Board, Navya, said:

We see a growing interest from cities and communities for our autonomous shuttle solutions and are happy to collaborate with new countries such as Portugal. This first deployment during the Aveiro Tech Week event is a first step in our collaboration with the city of Aveiro, which places useful innovation at the heart of its services and infrastructures.

According to the shuttle operators, this deployment aims to contribute to the innovative and forward-thinking image of the city of Aveiro by advancing its focus on technology and creativity.

José Ribau Esteves, Mayor of Aveiro said:

The city of Aveiro is a national reference in terms of economic development, tourism, culture, university services and advanced technology companies in several industrial fields. As part of the Living Lab ecosystem, one of the major areas is autonomous and connected mobility services where the Municipality of Aveiro, the Instituto de Telecomunicações and Ubiwhere are developing several projects that test real autonomous mobility solutions in the city.

Navya has been selected for the demonstration of the autonomous shuttle which will be deployed during Aveiro Tech Week. For the first time in Portugal, we will test an autonomous shuttle connected to a Living Lab infrastructure with V2X communication. This demonstration allows citizens and visitors to discover advanced technologies in autonomous mobility.
