Helbiz is expanding its operations into Australia through a partnership with Logan City Council in Queensland.

Following several months of consultation and collaboration, Logan City Council has granted Helbiz a 12-month licence to operate up to 400 e-scooters and 400 e-bikes from late August 2022.

Helbiz began operating in Europe in 2018 and in the US in 2019. Its licence in Logan City is now Helbiz’s first direct partnership with an Australian city. Later this year, Helbiz also intends to introduce 500 e-bikes in Sydney and 100 e-scooters in Alloggio resorts.

Helbiz and Logan City Council will ensure that all operations protect riders, pedestrians and other road users by leveraging Helbiz’s AI-powered HelmetChecker, accurate geofencing capabilities and community education campaigns.

Helbiz’s Max Plus X e-scooter has a geofence accuracy with a 0.06 second response time to immediately identify and respond to slow or no ride zones. The Helbiz e-scooter is also equipped with turning indicators which are an industry first in Australia.

Furthermore, in the run-up to the start of operations, Helbiz will host free community events to allow riders to try out the vehicles and learn more about how to operate them safely.

Salvatore Palella, Helbiz CEO said:

Safety is always the focus of our operations and it is the same for our partnership with Logan. At Helbiz, we pride ourselves on building trust with our Council partners and their local communities by investing in the safety of all road users through hardware, software, and education campaigns.

All Helbiz vehicles in Australia will be powered by 100 percent clean energy. Logan City hopes that this partnership will reduce single-occupant motor vehicle trips in the city to help create a more sustainable community.
