EDF and Pod Point have launched an industry-first electric vehicle (EV) home charger and tariff bundle, reducing the upfront costs of going electric to help more drivers make the switch.
With over 1.2m EVs now on UK roads and more drivers making the transition than ever, the new ‘Pod Point Plug & Power’ bundle offers drivers the ability to purchase a Pod Point Solo 3S charger for an initial payment of £499 (compared to £1,099).
Making the bundle the first-of-its-kind, the remaining cost for the charger is spread over two years and integrated into the tariff, giving drivers a more cost-effective way to get a convenient and reliable home charger and run their EV.
The tariff, priced at £2,139 a year for the average EV driver using dual fuel at home, gives customers cheap overnight rates, with five hours of off-peak electricity between 12 – 5am to power both their home and car, priced at 8.49p per kWh.
For an average motorist, charging with the Pod Point Plug & Power will save drivers £538 a year compared to petrol. And compared with using the public charging network, EV drivers charging with the tariff would save £4603.
Pod Point, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has partnered with EDF, Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity, to offer this unique bundle, which is suitable for all EVs and is backed by 100% zero carbon electricity.
Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF said:We’re always looking for ways to make sustainable choices more convenient and affordable, so this bundle is a great option for drivers to be able to make the switch to electric driving, with lower upfront costs. Joining forces with Pod Point is the perfect solution for our customers, and builds on the outstanding service levels they have come to expect, with both businesses rated ‘Excellent’ on Trustpilot.
Melanie Lane, CEO at Pod Point said:We’re delighted to partner with EDF on this industry-first bundle, giving drivers an all-in-one solution to charge their EVs at home, with the benefit of low-cost, overnight electricity. We’ve seen dedicated EV tariffs become a key consideration for drivers, as well as the need for a home charger that gives them great value, and so we integrated both elements and launched the Plug & Power bundle, making EV driving even easier and more affordable.
Customers can sign up via EDF’s website, and once signed up, EDF will pass details onto Pod Point to buy the Solo 3S EV charger from £499. The Solo 3S comes with a 5-year warranty and standard installation is included. The Pod Point app also allows users manage their home charging conveniently from their phone.
To be eligible for Pod Point Plug & Power, customers are required to have a smart meter and be opted into half hourly meter readings.
