Baidu has announced a new, multi-year strategic partnership with Uber for the deployment of thousands of its Apollo Go autonomous vehicles (AVs) on the Uber ride-hailing platform across a number of global markets outside of the US and China.

The collaboration aims to increase the supply of ridesharing options by bringing Baidu’s autonomous vehicles into the global Uber network.

Baidu is currently the only company to provide fully driverless autonomous ride-hailing services in multiple cities across China

The initial rollout is expected to include both Asia and the Middle East later this year, with riders requesting a qualifying Uber trip offered the option to have their trip completed by a driverless Apollo Go vehicle.

Robin Li, Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Baidu, said:

We are committed to bringing the benefit of autonomous driving technology to more people in more markets, and this partnership with Uber represents a major milestone in deploying our technology on a global scale.

We look forward to working with Uber to deliver safe and efficient autonomous mobility solutions to riders around the world.
