Uber is now offering users autonomous ride-hailing services in Atlanta, Georgia, through its collaboration with Waymo.

This launch follows Waymo’s earlier rollouts in other US cities, including Phoenix, San Francisco, and Austin. In Atlanta, passengers can use the Uber app to request an UberX, Comfort or Comfort Electric ride and may be matched with a fully autonomous, all-electric Jaguar I-PACE, operated by Waymo.

Passengers will be informed ahead of time and will retain the option to switch to a non-autonomous ride if preferred. There is no additional fee for selecting a Waymo vehicle.

Waymo vehicles will operate within a 65-square-mile area of Atlanta, including Downtown, Buckhead and Capitol View. Uber has indicated plans to expand this service area over time.

Once a Waymo vehicle is dispatched, passengers can unlock doors, access the boot, and begin their trip through the Uber app. Both companies have included in-app and in-car customer support, available around the clock for those needing assistance during their journey.

Uber states that any autonomous vehicle operating on its platform must meet its established safety guidelines. Waymo’s fleet, which has logged millions of miles in autonomous mode on public roads, is being introduced with the aim of reducing traffic-related injuries.

For those in Atlanta who would like to increase the likelihood of being matched with an autonomous vehicle, an opt-in feature is available under the Ride Preferences section of the Uber app.

The partnership between Waymo and Uber reflects broader efforts to integrate autonomous vehicles into existing ride-hailing networks, combining established technology with familiar consumer interfaces.
