The City of Perth, Australia has announced that Beam Mobility has joined its shared e-scooter trial, which launched in March 2023.

This follows Bird Rides’ termination of its Western Australian operations due to issues with its insurance policy.

Beam will now join Neuron Mobility in offering shared e-scooter services in the city until early 2025.

Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said:

I’d like to welcome Beam Mobility to the City of Perth, as it joins Neuron Mobility as part of our e-scooter trial. Having two brands of e-scooters available is important to us to ensure riders have choice, it also keeps the brands competitive ensuring the best deal for residents, workers and visitors looking to scoot in the City.

Under this operating license, Beam has rolled out 250 Saturn 5 e-scooters which feature an enhanced design including smaller handlebars, larger wheels, auditory alerts and hands-free phone charging.

This model also offers up to 120 kilometres of battery life.

Beam and Neuron’s e-scooters are all fitted with geofencing technology to ensure they are only used in permitted areas.

In Western Australia, the government-regulated speed for e-scooters is 25 km/h. In Perth, the vehicles are able to travel up to 25 km/h on roads and 10 km/h on footpaths.
