Zoox has announced the beginning of its new Zoox Explorers programme in San Francisco, with members of the public now being invited to be one of the first to use the new service.

An early rider initiative; the Zoox Explorers programme invites people to ride for free in order to provide feedback to improve the company’s services before full-scale operations begin.

Aicha Evans, CEO, Zoox, said:

Zoox has been testing our autonomous technology in San Francisco since 2017.

It's our home. A city of innovation and progress, with an amazing mobility ecosystem that we feel Zoox can really complement. We have seen incredible interest in Zoox in this market and are excited about this first step to bring our purpose-built robotaxi experience to more people.

A point-to-point service, testers will be able to ride anywhere within the operator’s service area, including the majority of the SoMa, Mission and Design District neighbourhoods, with suggestions given to visit points of interest, select a specific street address or drop a pin at their destination within the service area.

Walking directions will also be given if necessary to complete select journeys, with initial rides across San Francisco being offered for free.

Those already on the waitlist will receive information in the near future, and will be let off the list pending criteria including location and the introduction of additional robotaxis.

Those interested in joining the programme can do so via the Zoox app.
