ZeroAvia has announced it has been given design organisation approval (DOA) by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), confirming that the regulator is satisfied with ZeroAvia’s technical expertise, facilities and capabilities to design safe and reliable products, declaring it fully prepared to comply with requirements for certification.
The requirements are used to ensure a safe global market entry and are currently used by other regulatory authorities such as the EASA and the FAA.

Val Miftakhov, Founder & CEO, ZeroAvia, said:It is a huge achievement for any start-up company in the aerospace sector to advance to the stage of DOA status, particularly in a highly novel technology area.
Certifying an aircraft engine is necessarily an arduous journey, but the prize here is enabling thousands of aircraft to fly clean, quiet and with improved economics.
The securing of the DOA represents a key milestone in the company’s goal of achieving a type certificate for its ZA600 powertrain, which uses fuel cells to generate electricity from hydrogen. It also follows two additional regulatory milestones for ZeroAvia in 2025, with the FAA issuing both G-1 and P-1 issue papers in relation to ZeroAvia’s bid to certify its 600kW electric propulsion system (EPS).
Utilising the company’s proprietary motor and power electronics technology; the 600kW EPS forms an integral part of the overall ZA600 hydrogen-electric powertrain.
