The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has selected Wildflower to build the largest public electric vehicle (EV) charging station in New York City.

This development will initially provide 65 EV charging stations, 12 of which will offer rapid charging.

It will be located near John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), helping southeastern Jamaica become one of the leading areas for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the city.

The EV charging statin will advance a key commitment within New York City’s Green Economy Action Plan

This development responds to the increased demand for electric vehicles and the shortage of EV chargers in this part of the city.

Deputy Mayor of Housing, Economic Development and Workforce Maria Torres-Springer said:

The Mayor announced the Green Economy Action Plan just three weeks ago, and this project is major progress on one of the most important goals: activating public sites for EV charging. By 2040, New York City's economy is projected to have 400,000 green jobs and this project near JFK exemplifies the true power of EV charging, a technological innovation that will reduce carbon emissions and lead to thousands of more green collar jobs to design, install, maintain and upgrade critical climate infrastructure.

The facility will be available 24/7 and will be able to expand over time to also support other vehicles such as electric trucks.

Electrical conduits will also be installed throughout the site to allow for additional charging stations to be added over time.

The project is expected to be completed in 2025 and is then estimated to initially charge 1,000 vehicles per year.

Wildflower Founder Adam Gordon said:

This project will deliver a cleaner, more sustainable and more connected city for all New Yorkers with 24/7 public access to electric vehicle charging in this critical area of the city. Wildflower is excited to partner with Mayor Adams and NYCEDC on ‘PlaNYC: Getting Sustainability Done’ with investments in green infrastructure at record scale. Responding to the climate crisis will take bold action, and this project represents an exciting step.
