Waymo has officially begun welcoming the first public riders to its fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Miami.
At present; the 60-square-mile area of operation includes a number of Miami’s key neighbourhoods, including the Design District, Wynwood, Brickell and Coral Gables – with plans to extend to Miami International Airport in the near future.

Thus far, 10,000 residents have signed up, with new riders set to be invited on a rolling basis.
Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo, said:Miami is a city defined by its energy, myriad of global cultures, and its forward-looking spirit, and Waymo is proud to add to that momentum.
We’re excited to offer its residents and visitors a safe, reliable, and magical way to move around and look forward to earning their trust with every ride.
Waymo’s introduction in Miami is hoped to not only offer a wide suite of autonomous transport solutions, but also reduce overall crash rates across the city. The company has stated that its technology has been specifically designed to handle the city’s unique environment, ensuring a reliable service across adverse weather conditions.
The company has also stated it will continue to work with local organisations to keep a consistent service that meets the needs of Miami’s residents.
