In 2025, Volvo Trucks is set to launch its Volvo FH Electric electric truck with a 600-kilometre range.
This vehicle marks a breakthrough in the electrification of heavy-duty transport due to its capability of travelling over a longer distance on a single charge.
Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks said:Our new electric flagship will be a great complement to our wide range of electric trucks and enable zero-exhaust emission transport also for the longer distances. It will be a great solution for transport companies with a high annual mileage on their trucks and with a strong commitment to reduce CO2.
The new Volvo FH Electric will enable transport companies to cover longer distances on interregional and long-haul routes without the need for frequent recharging.
Its extended range is made possible by Volvo’s new e-axle driveline technology, which allows for a significantly increased battery capacity.
The technology, combined with more efficient batteries and an improved battery management system, boosts the overall efficiency of the truck’s powertrain. The innovation therefore paves the way for greater adoption of electric trucks in long-distance haulage.
Volvo Trucks is already established as a global leader in electric truck production with eight battery-electric models in its portfolio. These trucks cover various transport needs, from city and regional distribution to construction and waste management.
The company is committed to reaching net-zero emissions by 2040 through a three-path technology strategy. This approach focuses on battery-electric trucks, fuel-cell electric vehicles, and combustion engines running on renewable fuels like green hydrogen, biogas, and Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO).
