The Swedish micromobility provider Voi has entered a three-year partnership with German Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) provider Swobbee in order to improve the efficiency and sustainability of battery swapping for e-scooter sharing.
The two companies have worked well together on previous projects. Now, they are hoping to set up charging and swapping stations across Europe. To launch this programme, two stations have been established in Hamburg. Each one can accommodate 20 exchangeable batteries.
Ariel Schäffer, Head of Operations Germany at Voi, said:We've already set up a decentralised system in Hanover, Nuremberg and Berlin. In Hamburg, we've placed the stations in the popular Schanzenviertel district to enable us to carry out as many swaps as possible directly onsite.
This deployment in Hamburg highlights the city’s importance as a key location for Voi. Almost 10 million trips have been taken on Voi’s e-scooters since their introduction in May 2019. The only other city in Germany with a greater number of rides is Berlin.
As a result of e-scooter popularity in Hamburg, Voi is putting energy behind its engagement with local authorities here in order to shape regulated operations.
