Streetwise Technology, a pedestrian-first innovation, has been awarded the Transport Research and Innovation Grant (TRIG) by the UK Department for Transport (DfT).
This grant will help Streetwise further develop its intelligent traffic management solutions aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety across the UK.
Each year, around 18,000 pedestrians are struck by vehicles on UK roads, often due to drivers failing to notice them at crossings. To mitigate these accidents, Streetwise’s solution uses AI-powered sensors and real-time data to dynamically alert drivers when pedestrians approach a crossing.
Additionally, for greater accessibility, Streetwise is integrating Auracast, which connects to hearing aids, and other adaptive features designed to serve those with special needs, including SEND children and individuals with reduced mobility.

With this grant, the company will soon begin trials, including a pilot at Portsmouth International Port, to show how its beacons can improve safety, efficiency, and inclusivity across various public and private sectors. This development represents a significant step toward the UK’s vision of safer, smarter transportation infrastructure
