Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has confirmed a list of electric car models eligible for a discount under the government’s new 650 million GBP Electric Car Grant (ECG scheme).
Starting today, prospective buys will be offered a discount of 1,500 GBP off 4 different Citroën models – the Citroën ë-C3, ë–C4, ë-C5 and the ë-Berlingo.

The discount will be applied automatically during the purchase of the vehicle, with more models set to be approved as eligible for the discount in the coming days and weeks.
Available until the 2028 to 2029 financial year; the ECG has been introduced to offer carmakers the chance to apply discounts at the point of sale for a selection of electric vehicles (EVs) in the hopes of increasing overall EV adoption.
The approval of the first 4 models included comes following the installation of 17,300 chargepoints across the UK since July 2024 – bringing the total number of facilities in the country to more than 82,000.
Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander, said:With the first four models approved today and more to come over the next few weeks, this summer we’re making owning an electric car cheaper, easier and a reality for thousands more people across the UK.
Once again we’re delivering our Plan for Change by standing firmly on the side of motorists and manufacturers, driving down costs for consumers, supporting jobs and putting money back in people’s pockets.
The ECG was opened to applications from manufacturers last month, and offers discounts of up to 3,750 GBP, following an investment of 1.6 billion GBP to tackle potholes and freeze fuel duty at 5p until spring 2026.
