The UK government has granted 18.5 million GBP to 13 projects focussed on improving the safety and security of self-driving vehicles.
This funding is part of the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles’ Connected and Automated Mobility programme.
The selected projects aim to address crucial technology gaps in the industry to improve safety, performance and reliability, while also providing scalable opportunities for development.
Examples of the funded projects include:
- DeepSafe, led by HORIBA MIRA has been awarded 1.5 million GBP to support the verification and validation of automated driving systems (ADS) trained against edge cases such as high-impact collisions and emergencies.
- DriveSafeAI, led by DRISK.AI has been awarded 2 million GBP to develop a safety assurance framework for the safe deployment of AI in self-driving technology.
- DRIVEN BY SOUND is a collaborative initiative led by CALYO to create an affordable, robust navigation system for automated vehicles, with a particular emphasis on adverse weather. It has been awarded 910,000 GBP.
- Sim4CAMSens has been awarded 2 million GBP to develop a sensor evaluation framework that spans modelling, simulation and physical testing. This project will involve the creation of new sensor models, noise models, material models and test methods.
