Uber has announced the launch of AV Labs, a new team focused on the acceleration of autonomy ecosystems by developing a data flywheel that aims to real-world, long-tail driving scenarios.
The ride-hailing company intends to deploy AV Labs to provide machine learning solutions trained on its millions of daily trips across the globe.

The team will seek to bring together experts from data, machine machine learning, computer vision, systems, and infrastructure in an effort to transform real-world operations into high-quality data that helps autonomous systems learn faster and provide better performance.
AV Labs is set to support partners and accelerate progress via the building of a wealth of core capabilities that power autonomy learning, including data mining, simulation, validation and system-level improvements across perception, prediction, and planning.
Uber has stated that it has begun actively hiring engineers and researchers for the new team.
