Stagecoach has completed its first eHGV charging trial at its Stockton-on-Tees depot, in partnership with VEV.
The completion of the trial forms part of the operator’s plan to advance its B2B charging infrastructure whilst supporting the decarbonisation of commercial transport.

Last week saw a Volvo eHGV successfully complete a charging session at the site in Stockton, with the process itself being carried out across two hours. The vehicle utilised a 150kW DC charging source powered by VEV’s smart charging and digital energy management platofrm, VEV-IQ, which also provides insights into session performance with information on charging efficiency and power delivery.
The trial’s success marks the start of Stagecoach’s first phase of a national rollout of its charging infrastructure, which is set to be completed within the next 12 months.
Stagecoach will open eHGV charging hubs at its depots in Stockton, Chesterfield, Aberdeen, Inverness, Kilmarnock, Cambridge and Lea Interchange (London).
Marvin Smith, Head of Solution Sales at Stagecoach, said:Decarbonising transport is a national effort, and by successfully opening our first eHGV charging hub in Stockton and partnering with key logistics players like PD Ports, we are providing the reliable, high-performance infrastructure the industry needs.
This trial proves that our B2B charging strategy is robust, scalable, and ready to support the next generation of electric fleets across the UK, securing a cleaner future for commercial transport.
The operator recently submitted plans to Stockton Council for the redevelopment of its site in Stockton, with new buildings set to replace the existing infrastructure.
