Uber has partnered with bike-sharing service, Tembici to make bikes and e-bikes available on the Uber platform in South America.

This partnership will add Tembici and Itaú bike stations to the Uber app, making it easier for users to travel short distances without a car.

With this initiative, it will be possible for users to book a Tembici bicycle or e-bike directly in the Uber app

Tembici’s shared bikes will initially be available on the Uber app in Recife, followed by Brasília, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. Once established in these Brazilian locations, the partnership will also expand to other cities in Latin America.

Annie Duvnjak, Uber's Global Head of Micromobility, said:

We're excited to harness the power of the Uber platform to bring Tembici's common bikes and shared electric bikes to Uber riders in Latin America at the touch of a button. This partnership underscores the important role that car-free options are increasingly playing in Uber's strategy to achieve zero carbon emissions by providing users with sustainable, affordable, and convenient ways to travel.

By the end of 2023, Tembici expects to offer more than 30,000 bikes in Latin America, with over 10,000 electric models.

These vehicles will also continue to be accessible through the Tembici app and bike Itaú.

Tomás Martins, CEO of Tembici, said:

This initiative between the two companies represents a fundamental step towards the development of more sustainable and efficient mobility solutions in Latin American cities. We're thrilled to continue to innovate in the bike-sharing business, and we're thrilled to be the first company using the shared-station model to make regular and electric bikes available on the Uber app.
