Porsche is introducing inductive wireless charging for its upcoming all-electric Cayenne, marking the first use of the technology in one of its production models.

The system delivers up to 11 kW and operates via a floor-mounted base plate that replaces the need for a wallbox.

The ‘one-box’ unit can be installed indoors or outdoors and connects directly to the mains. A receiver coil fitted in the vehicle’s underbody enables charging when the car is parked above the plate. The Cayenne lowers automatically to align with the system, and charging begins once the position is confirmed.

Porsche states that the wireless charging process achieves up to 90 percent efficiency. Meanwhile, safety features include motion detection and foreign object recognition, which interrupt charging if people, animals or metallic objects interfere.

The system integrates with the My Porsche app for monitoring and authentication, and the Surround View function helps drivers position the car. Weighing around 50 kg, the base plate is equipped with LTE and WLAN modules to allow remote software updates.

Sales of the floor plate are planned for 2026 through Porsche Centres and online. The Cayenne Electric itself is due for its world premiere at the end of 2025.

While the wireless system is intended for home use, the Cayenne will also support DC charging at up to 400 kW for long-distance travel.

At IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Porsche is displaying a prototype Cayenne with the inductive system and a fluorescent paint finish that lights up under alternating current.
