May Mobility is deploying its autonomous vehicle service in Peachtree Corners, one of the first smart city environments in the US, powered by T-Mobile’s 5G network.
This marks May Mobility’s first deployment in Georgia, offering its on-demand autonomous transportation solution.
The launch took place at the Curiosity Lab, with autonomous Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS vehicles providing service for the Lab’s visitors along Technology Parkway.
The autonomous shuttles are operating between eight designated stops, including key local destinations like hotels, restaurants, office spaces, and Peachtree Corners City Hall.
The service will be open to the general public from the week of 7 October.
Peachtree Corners City Manager Brian Johnson said:We have been able to demo, test and deploy multiple autonomous vehicle solutions since we opened in 2019, and we are excited to continue these efforts by welcoming May Mobility to Peachtree Corners and the state of Georgia. As we continue to focus on bringing autonomous mobility options to residents and visitors to better connect them with the community, May Mobility’s solutions provide an on-demand service within our ecosystem, with the goal to slowly expand the route to our Town Center.
Each May Mobility vehicle is equipped with the company’s patented Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) system, an AI-powered technology that analyses real-time driving scenarios and makes safe driving decisions.
This deployment allows May Mobility to demonstrate how MPDM functions in a real-world smart city environment, while benefiting from T-Mobile’s high-speed, low-latency 5G connectivity.
Manik Dhar, Chief Commercial Officer for May Mobility said:Our autonomous driving technology has proven its ability to scale well across diverse environments, and we’re excited to operate in Peachtree Corners’ real-world smart city. This deployment allows us to showcase how MPDM operates both inside and outside of Curiosity Lab’s autonomous vehicle test lanes, while also benefiting from T-Mobile’s 5G. We can’t wait for Georgians to experience our autonomous driving technology and bringing this service to Peachtree Corners is an exciting first step for the state.
The autonomous service will operate Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, accommodating up to four passengers per vehicle.
Rides can be easily booked through the May Mobility app, developed in partnership with transit tech company Via.
Each vehicle will initially have an attendant onboard, but May Mobility plans to transition to a fully autonomous service in the near future.
