May Mobility has announced an expansion of its autonomous driving test operations, with service already underway throughout the streets of Ann Arbor, Michigan, following a successful launch into Arizona in early 2024.

Testing is currently taking place across a 2 square mile area of the city and involves a series of complex sequences taking into account traffic conditions, weather patterns and pedestrian density.

The introduction of May Mobility’s technology in the streets of Ann Arbor marks the company’s second active deployment in the US

Equipped with its patented Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology, May Mobility’s vehicles utilise associated in-situ artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in order to decipher data in real-time, allowing the vehicle’s ‘driver’ to both learn and adapt to unpredictable conditions as it completes operations.

Edwin Olson, CEO and co-founder of May Mobility, said:

Starting driver-out operations in our second city in under a year shows the scalability of our technology while expanding our capabilities to challenging weather, higher speeds and busy traffic.

The company recently showcased its technology during a Technology Day held in Ann Arbor itself, offering attendees thirty minute autonomous rides on public roads.

May Mobility recently revealed its latest iteration of autonomy hardware and UX upgrades, which include enhanced accessibility capabilities with automated audio announcements and brail-based keypads as well as a new viewing mode enabling passengers to watch both the vehicle’s perception and decision-making process during travel.

With the new testing location, May Mobility currently has ten active deployments, with a further three set to debut before the end of 2024, and is working with Peachtree Corners, GA, to bring its driverless operations to the city in 2025.
