Lucid Group is set to acquire selected assets and facilities previously owned by Nikola Corporation, subject to approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

This acquisition includes two sites in Arizona but does not involve Nikola’s core business, customer base, or hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technology.

The transaction involves Nikola’s former manufacturing plant in Coolidge (680 E Houser Rd) and a facility in Phoenix (4141 E Broadway Rd) that previously served as Nikola’s headquarters and product development centre.

These facilities provide over 884,000 square feet of space, much of it dedicated to manufacturing and warehousing functions. The sites also include equipment for vehicle development, battery testing, and environmental analysis, as well as a full-size chassis dynamometer and machining tools.

Lucid, which currently produces electric vehicles at its Arizona plant, intends to use the acquisition to support the scaling of its operations, including production of the Lucid Gravity SUV and future midsize platform models. The company states that the new facilities align with its pre-existing plans to expand within Arizona.

Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO at Lucid said:

As we continue our production ramp of Lucid Gravity and prepare for our upcoming midsize platform vehicles, acquiring these assets is an opportunity to strategically expand our manufacturing, warehousing, testing, and development facilities while supporting our local Arizona community.

As part of the move, Lucid will extend job offers to over 300 former Nikola employees. These positions will include a mix of salaried and hourly roles across manufacturing engineering, vehicle testing, assembly, software development, and warehousing.

The acquisition follows Nikola Corporation’s recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and subsequent asset auction, which concluded on 10 April 2025.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs said:

Today's announcement is fantastic news for Arizona workers and our state's growing EV and battery manufacturing industry. Arizona is the proud home of Lucid's advanced EV manufacturing lines – and this acquisition promises to strengthen Lucid's operations while offering continued employment to hundreds of skilled workers in our state.
