ioki has been chosen to deliver software for an autonomous driving pilot project in Zurich.

The project, which will see a slew of autonomous vehicles operating in the Furttal region from Spring 2025, aims to assess the feasibility of the implementation of autonomous vehicles to improve public transport in rural areas.

The project will see autonomous vehicles offering trips throughout rural areas in Zurich

First conceived by the Canton of Zurich, SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) and the Swiss Transit Lab, additional partners involved in the project include Nissan, who will provide vehicles for the project, as well as WeRide, who will equip each vehicle with its own automated driving technology.

Rides will be available through ioki’s dedicated passenger app, with the company also providing on-demand software for the booking and route planning of each autonomous vehicle.

Michael Barillère-Scholz, CEO at ioki, emphasised:

We are delighted to be part of this forward-looking project. With our on-demand technology, we are making a significant contribution to improving mobility in rural areas.

The development of future mobility concepts is crucial for driving the digital and sustainable transformation of public transport.
