Hyundai Motor Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Nusantara Capital City Authority in Indonesia to establish an advanced air mobility ‘ecosystem’.
The MoU was signed during the B20 summit at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center with the attendance of Jaiwon Shin, President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group’s Advanced Air Mobility Division and Indonesian government officials, including Bambang Susantono, Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority.
The agreement aims to introduce advanced air mobility as part of a ‘smart mobility ecosystem’ in the new capital city being established in Indonesia. To achieve this, Hyundai will develop a roadmap and review the concept of consolidated mobility for ground and air while carrying out demonstrations and test flights.
Bambang Susantono, Head of the Capital City Nusantara Authority said:Implementing advanced air mobility in Nusantara is in line with OIKN’s spirit of being a ‘living laboratory’ in Indonesia, open to creating a culture of new learning, working and lifestyle. We value Hyundai Motor Group’s cooperation in developing Nusantara as a smart and sustainable city.
Indonesia is the largest aviation market in Southeast Asia. The nation consists of more than 18,000 islands, making it difficult to rely on land transportation.
An advanced air mobility ecosystem could therefore help improve mobility for islanders while utilising Indonesia’s aviation infrastructure and technological capabilities.
Jaiwon Shin, President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group’s Advanced Air Mobility Division said:The vision of implementing advanced air mobility is to create a safe, accessible, automated and affordable air transportation system. It is for a better future, so that future generations can have a better quality of life. Our cooperation with the Indonesian government is the embodiment of Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to bring the vision to life, to contribute to a better future for Indonesia.
Hyundai also plans to build a global advanced air mobility ecosystem based on its achievements in Indonesia.
