Harbour Air has signed a Letter of Intenet (LOI) with magniX to purchase 50 magni650 electric aircraft engines.
This agreement advances Harbour Air’s goal of electrifying its seaplane fleet to deliver sustainable aviation services.
The companies will now collaborate to obtain Transport Canada validation of the magni650 type certificate.
magniX will also assist Harbour Air in obtaining Canadian and American Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for installing the magni650 on the DHC-2 Beaver aircraft. What’s more, the agreement includes the option to extend their support to other aircraft platforms.

Harbour Air’s electrification vision also includes the development of a sustainable aviation hub to provide electrification conversions and services to third parties.
The agreement with magniX aids this vision by ensuring the supply of electric engines for its customers, as well as its own aircraft.

Since announcing an initial partnership in early 2019, Harbour Air and magniX have operated 78 successful test flights with a prototype aircraft. This followed their successful maiden flight of the world’s first fully electric commercial aircraft in Richmond, BC in December 2019.
Harbour Air’s timeline targets the commercial certification of its first electric aircraft by 2026. Following certification, the company plans to convert additional aircraft within its fleet and offer third-party conversions to promote the widespread adoption of electric aviation.
