GLOBAL Optimizes Passenger Transportation in Gran Canaria, Spain with Optibus
SALCAI UTINSA S.A. (GLOBAL), the main intercity transportation operator on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain, has begun to use Optibus’ planning and scheduling modules to optimize its passenger transportation services.
GLOBAL, the largest cooperative company in the Canary Islands, was established in 2000 as a result of a merger between the two existing intercity transport operators in Gran Canaria: SALCAI and UTINSA. Today, it operates more than 340 buses servicing 27 million kilometers annually across 121 lines throughout the island. The company is committed to supporting the Gran Canaria community by providing quality services that adapt to the changing needs of its more than 25 million annual passengers.
Until now, GLOBAL relied solely on the use of manual processes to optimize its schedule. This approach makes it difficult to visualize and compare scenarios, understand how service changes impact the overall network, and make informed, strategic decisions in an agile manner.
The ease and speed of Optibus’ data migration, the software’s ability to achieve accurate results based on set preferences, and visibility into how service changes affect operations and KPIs offers the solution that GLOBAL needs to optimize its services more efficiently. GLOBAL was particularly impressed with the capability of Optibus’ optimization algorithms to produce far more optimal results than both their previous process and other solutions on the market.
