Ford has announced that its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology will be made available on a wider range of vehicles in Europe, including the Puma, Puma Gen-E, Kuga, and Ranger PHEV.
The system was first introduced in Europe on the Mustang Mach-E 2.
BlueCruise is a Level 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that allows ‘hands-off, eyes-on’ operation on approved highways, known as Blue Zones. It controls steering, acceleration, braking, lane positioning, and safe distances from other vehicles, while monitoring road markings, speed signs, and traffic conditions.
A forward-facing camera tracks lanes and speed limits, while radars monitor surrounding traffic. A driver-facing camera ensures that the driver remains attentive, even when wearing sunglasses.
The system received regulatory approval in the UK in 2023 and is now authorised for use across 16 European markets, covering more than 135,000 kilometres of designated highways. This allows drivers to travel across multiple countries while using hands-free driving, such as from Stockholm to Rome, a journey of over 2,000 kilometres.
BlueCruise will now be offered on selected Puma, Puma Gen-E, Kuga, and Ranger PHEV vehicles from spring 2026 when equipped with the Driver Assistance Pack. Subscription options and pricing will be provided closer to the on-sale date.
