Design details have been revealed for a first-of-its-kind advanced ‘female’ crash test dummy – the THOR-05F.
Creation of the dummy aims to address what the US Department of Transportation refers to as an ‘ongoing trend’ of higher injury rates for women than men in certain car crash scenarios.

Currently, the standard ‘female’ crash test dummy, the Hybrid III, weighs 108 pounds, and stands at 4 foot 11 inches. It was first created in the 1970s and represents the smallest 5% of American women.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, said:After years of delays, our team has worked hard over the last eight months to finalise the details for this new, state of the art female crash test dummy.
Equipped with over 150 cutting-edge sensors; the THOR-05F has been designed to be more durable, accurate and lifelike, allowing for the collection of three times as many injury measurements as current dummies on the market.
With both the research and technical details solidified, the unit is now available for dummy manufacturers to build models meeting the specifications.
