The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published its International AI Maturity Model, revealing that the mobility sector is one of the least prepared industries to integrate AI technologies.

BSI’s International AI Maturity Model and accompanying Trust in AI report conducted a global analysis to assess 7 sectors on their readiness to adopt AI tools.

The mobility sector came 3rd out of 7 sectors. It scored 2 out of a possible 5, ranking higher than built environment and healthcare but falling behind food, life sciences, technology, and retail.

Mobility sector falling behind in AI adoption, says BSI

Throughout the study, 78 percent of mobility businesses said that their business encouraged the use of AI. 81 percent also expressed confidence in their business’s ability to leverage the benefits of AI.

Despite this conviction, only a third (36%) of mobility businesses said they were offering employee training for using AI tools safely and ethically.

Meanwhile, only 44% of mobility businesses said they had an AI strategy in place.

To ensure businesses are not left behind, BSI’s research offered four key takeaways for successfully realising the benefits of AI:

  • Think long-term
  • Collaborate across borders
  • Move from intention to action
  • Lead and inspire

This focus is arguably critical, with 76 percent of survey respondents believing that a failure to realise the benefits of AI would put them at a competitive disadvantage.
