Brussels-based postal company bpost has now transitioned to a complete zero-emission fleet for its regular letter and parcel rounds across all 19 municipalities in Brussels.
The move renders the Belgian capital as the first major European city to operate a completely emission-free service daily postal service.

The move first began two years ago and now sees bpost postmen and postwomen deliver on-foot, with electric bikes and trailers, electric vans and pick-up points.
Made possible via collaboration with the Brussels-Capital Region, all 19 municipalities, Innoviris and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB); bpost’s local fleet contrains 565 electric vans and 57 electric bikes with attached trailers.
Karin Enzlin, Head of Sustainability Belgium at bpostgroup, said:The Brussels-Capital Region aims for cleaner air and calmer mobility. Extending bpost’s emission-free model for daily postal rounds to all 19 municipalities shows that high-performance logistics and a more breathable city can go hand in hand.
Even in challenging times, we remain firmly on course and continue to pursue our sustainability strategy. Brussels has become the first European metropolis of this scale where all daily rounds are done exclusively on foot, by bicycle or electrically. This investment underlines our commitment and marks an important milestone on the path to a climate-friendly future. We sincerely thank the Secretary of State of the Brussels-Capital Region, the mayors of the 19 municipalities, Innoviris and VUB for their support and collaboration in making this possible.
In order to make the transition possible; 409 charging stations have ben installed across delivery centres throughout Brussels.
The move is expected to save 750 tonnes of CO2 per year.
