Beep, Inc. has announced the launch of a brand-new autonomous shuttle pilot programme at the Mississippi State University (MSU) campus.
The first of its kind in Mississippi; the programme, which is set to launch later this year, is hoped to allow MSU to test the potential effectiveness of the transport system within the campus, as well as judge the feasibility of the shuttle as a supplement to existing transport options on-site.
Beep’s Chief Revenue Officer Toby McGraw, said:MSU is a recognized national and global leader in integrating cutting-edge technologies throughout their campus to enhance the everyday lives of their students and faculty, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to pilot our autonomous and electric solutions on the MSU campus.
Jeremiah Dumas, MSU’s Executive Director of Transportation, and his staff truly understand the importance of being able to offer students, faculty and community members additional modes of transportation to safely travel between key points on campus. We are looking forward to seeing how our shared autonomous mobility solutions can both provide a valuable transportation option for the campus while integrating seamlessly into current transportation solutions.
The pilot is planned to utilise two 11-passenger, attendant-led autonomous and electric shuttles, with each vehicle operating on its own independent route around the campus. Scheduled stops along each route are set to include areas such as student housing and a selection of entertainment locations, among other key areas.
Throughout the pilot, Beep will continue to liaise directly with the Mississippi Department of Transportation to ensure the programme’s safety, evaluating sustainability, efficiency and accessibility throughout.
