Uber and Cruise have announced a multiyear partnership to introduce Cruise autonomous vehicles on the Uber platform.
Under this collaboration, the companies will launch a number of Chevy Bolt-based autonomous vehicles in 2025.
Uber riders who request a qualifying trip may then be given the option to receive their ride in a Cruise autonomous vehicle.
Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO said:As the largest mobility and delivery platform, we believe Uber can play an important role in helping to safely and reliably introduce autonomous technology to consumers and cities around the world. We’re thrilled to partner with Cruise and look forward to launching next year.
This partnership follows the resumption of Cruise’s supervised autonomous driving in Phoenix, AZ, Houston and Dallas, TX in June 2024.
Previously, the company paused operations due to an on-road incident. During this time, the company maintained ongoing testing to continually retrain and improve its autonomous driving software.
Marc Whitten, CEO of Cruise said:Cruise is on a mission to leverage driverless technology to create safer streets and redefine urban life. We are excited to partner with Uber to bring the benefits of safe, reliable, autonomous driving to even more people, unlocking a new era of urban mobility.
