Argo AI has established the Argo Safety Advisory Council to provide external advice on safety practices and policies for its autonomous operations.

The Argo Safety Advisory Council is comprised of industry leaders in the fields of transportation, medicine, law enforcement and cybersecurity who will provide feedback on maintaining safety, earning public trust, scaling safely across multiple cities and countries, and responsibly launching commercial driverless services.

Bryan Salesky, Founder and CEO, Argo AI said:

“At Argo, our foundational value is safety. Autonomous vehicles have the potential to profoundly and positively impact transportation safety and accessibility in cities. I am grateful for the Argo Safety Advisory Council to share their collective wisdom and expertise to help Argo realise this goal.”

The Council includes several figures who work in or have worked in transportation safety:

  • Christopher Doss, Senior Managing Director, Cybersecurity at Ankura and former Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • Dr Mitchell Garber, Senior Managing Consultant at ESi and former Medical Officer for the National Transportation Safety Board
  • David Kelly, Principal and CEO at Storm King Strategies and former Acting Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

  • Robert Sumwalt, Executive Director of the Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and former Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board

Argo AI has previously taken steps to engage with third-party groups to assess safety measures for autonomous operations.

For example, Argo AI previously collaborated with the League of American Bicyclists to develop technical guidelines for safe autonomous driving around cyclists.

Argo AI currently operates consumer-facing services with Lyft and Walmart and recently began offering driverless commercial services in Miami and Austin.
