Air Nostrum Group has signed an aircraft reservation agreement with Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) for the procurement of ten Airlander 10 hybrid aircraft.
Under the partnership, Air Nostrum Group, one of Europe’s largest airlines, has reserved ten 100-seat Airlander 10 aircraft, which will be delivered from 2026 onwards.
Upon delivery, Air Nostrum intends to begin operations as the aircraft’s launch airline, offering initial flights on domestic routes across Spain.
Prior to the agreement, six months of rigorous studies were carried out into the operation of Airlander 10 on Spanish aviation routes. The hybrid aircraft are expected to diversify and complement Air Nostrum’s current fleet, as they will be capable of carrying 100 passengers while only producing around a tenth of the harmful emissions.
Carlos Bertomeu, President of Air Nostrum said:Airlander is designed to deliver a better future for sustainable aviation services, enable new transport networks and provide rapid growth options for our customers. Our partnership with Air Nostrum Group, as the launch airline for Airlander 10, leads the way towards that future. As countries like France, Denmark, Norway, Spain and the UK begin to put in place ambitious mandates for the decarbonisation of domestic and short haul flight, Hybrid Air Vehicles and Air Nostrum Group are demonstrating how we can get there – and get there soon.
HAV will begin production of the aircraft this year in South Yorkshire, UK, creating thousands of skilled jobs in green aerospace technologies.
The Airlander 10 aims to be the world’s most energy-efficient large aircraft. As HAV continues to further develop electric propulsion technology, the company also anticipates that it will be the first large scale aircraft to achieve zero-emissions flight.
